This beautiful antique map by Hondius vividly captures the Straits of Magellan, Le Maire Strait, Tierra del Fuego, and the southern tip of Patagonia. The coastlines of Tierra del Fuego are portrayed incompletely, focusing on the mountainous terrain with minimal detail, except for a depiction of penguins noted as Pingnini Aves. The map is embellished with rhumb lines, a compass rose, galleons, sea monsters, and three strapwork cartouches, creating a visually striking representation of the region.
