Antique Maps by Joseph Stöcklein (*1676 - 1733)

Joseph Stöcklein was an Austrian Jesuit who joined the Society of Jesus at the age of 24. After completing his education, he became preacher in Komárno and Klausenburg (Hungary). Since 1724 he has been working on the publication of the magazine Der Neue Welt Bott, a vast compilation of Jesuit missionary letters. The first volume was published in Augsburg and Graz in 1726. Soon he received letters from German-speaking missionaries from all over the world and Stöcklein entered into contact with the missionaries in order to receive further information. The collection was published until 1761 with the title Allerhand so Lehr- als Geist-reiche Brief, Schrifften und Reis-Beschreibungen and also contains accurate maps and plates.
