Antique map of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony by Abraham Ortelius. From the first modern atlas, the famous Theatrum Orbis Terrarum by Ortelius, first published in 1570. Embellished with elaborate details and decorative elements.
In the north with East Frisia, Oldenburg and Bremen, in the south to Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Cologne. Osnabrück is located in the centre. With three cartouches and a mileage scale. The map is oriented to the east, north is on the left side. From the 1592 Latin edition of Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. Latin text on verso. Dated in the upper right to 1579.
