Old coloured title page of the Hondius-Janssonius Atlas. From the Latin edition of the Atlas Novus published 1638 in Amsterdam.
Pieter van der Krogt in Koeman's Atlantes Neerlandici, 1:32:
Architectural title page, surmounted by a sphere and allegorical representations of geography and astronomy. The text panel is flanked by allegorical figures for the continents. The title panel is left blank, some titles were printed with a separate copperplate, others we pasted in the blank space. The imprint is engraved on the plate, and occasionally pasted-over with a different imprint. This title page is based on Blaeu's appendix.
