Blaeu's title page for the atlas of Spain and Portugal. From the French edition of Blaeu's Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, sive Atlas Novus published 1640 in Amsterdam.
Pieter van der Krogt in Koeman's Atlantes Neerlandici, 2:22B:
Corinthian portico, surmounted by the royal coat-of-arms of Spain. On both sides in niches are personifications of the continents. The motto "NON VNVS SVFFICIT ORBIS" (one world is not big enough) originates from the Portuguese Jesuit missionary and explorer Emmanuel Nobrega, S.J. (1517-1570), who upon his arrival in the New World, told his companions: "This land is our enterprise". His daring and optimism were read in the sails of his ship "Unus non sufticit orbis." The title panel is left blank for pasting on the appropriate titles. In the plinth a panel is left blank for the imprint.
Old coloured, fully high-lighted in gold.
