Title page of the Atlas Nouveau by Hubert Jaillot. At the top the royal coat of arms of France, the gods Mars and Pallas next to the upper columns. Louis the Great and Monseigneur Le Dauphin are depicted on horses, Atlas with the globe in the centre. Below the battle scenes of Kassel and Seneffe.
Very good condition, with beautiful old colours.
Hubert Jaillot, one of the most important French cartographers of the 17th century, was born 1632. He had a partnership with Nicolas Sanson's son and re-published and re-engraved many Sanson maps. The Atlases and map mainly have been printed by Pierre Mortier in Amsterdam but also in Paris. He died 1712 in Paris.
