Old coloured title page of the "Water World", the Maritim Atlas of J. Janssonius, first edition, fully high-lighted in gold. The fifth part of the Latin edition of the Atlas Novus published 1650 in Amsterdam.
Pieter van der Krogt in Koeman's Atlantes Neerlandici, 1:45:
This page consists of three parts. At the top are scenes from the Old Testament: Moses holds the tables with the ten commandments, while at his side is Aaron the high priest. Incidents from Exodus are portrayed within the background landscape. In the centre is a text panel flanked by two Roman figures. At the bottom is an emperor (Ferdinand III ?) with nautical scenes on both sides. The title panel is blank; the engraved imprint is dated 1650, later altered to 1652, 1657, and finally 1700.
