Description
Woodcut map of Croatian east coast of the Adriatic Sea with the Kvarner Bay and Dalmatia by Benedetto Bordone. Shows the islands of Cres (Cherso), Losinj (Ossero), Istria, Krk (Vegia) and Rab (Arbe). On verso the map of the island of Trau (today the historical centre of the town of Trogir), Čiovo (Bua), San Andrea (Svetac) and a part of the island of Brac (Braccia).
From Libro di Benedetto Bordone... de tutte l'isole del mondo..., more commonly known as Isolario of Bordone, which first appeared in Venice in 1528. Three further editions followed in 1534, 1547 and 1565. The maps of all four editions were printed from the same woodblocks in Venice.
