Description

Engraved table with historical and geographical information of different European countries by Caspar Specht. For Portugal, for example, six provinces, the area under cultivation and the income are mentioned, that there are 3 dioceses, 13 bishops, 3 universities, 5 dukes, 30 counts and 7 margraves and that the current king is Peter II. Similar remarks are made for each country, including Spain, Denmark, England, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Russia, Prussia and the Ottoman Empire. With several coats of arms of the most important European orders of knights and leading royal and noble families.

Cartographer

The Danckerts family sold and published maps during the 17th Century in Amsterdam. Justus Danckerts, the son of the business founder Cornelius Danckerts, was born 1635. He has published several Atlases together with his son Theodorus between 1680 and 1700. The plates finally have been sold to R. & J. Ottens how published them on their own name. He died in 1701.
