Description

Very rare maps of central Italy by Domenico de Rossi. Showing the area of Lazio with part of Abruzzo from Tivoli in the West to Ceprano in the East. With beautiful perspective mountains and a large cartouche on each sheet. Two sheets unjoined.

Condition

Several tears in margin backed, centerfold backed, some flatted creases, some soiling especially in margin. One hole backed by paper on lower right part of "Parte Prime". Good impression.

Cartographer

Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi was born 1627 in Rome. He inherited the most important printing press in Rome in the 17th century from his father Giuseppe (1570-1639). His major work the atlas Mercurio Geografico was published from 1690 till 1714 in Rome. He died in 1691.
