Description
Rare first edition of the antique map of Brandenburg by Georg Paul Busch and Jacob Paul Freiherr von Gundling published by Covens & Mortier. Still without the address of Busch and Gundling. Shows Brandenburg and parts of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Poland. With postal routes marked. With the Mecklenburg Lake District, Magdeburg, Cottbus, Frankfurt Oder, Szczecin (Stettin), Neuruppin, Wittenberge, in the centre Berlin. To the lower left a beautiful title cartouche.
Condition
Centrefold backed in the lower area. Excellent condition with old outline color. Never framed before.
Cartographer
Pieter und David Mortier were booksellers in Paris and have published a wide range of geographical works. After Pieter's death, his widow continued the business until their son Cornelius took over. Cornelius started a partnership with his brother-in-law Johannes Covens and established the famous publishing house Covens and Mortier in Amsterdam. They have re-issued Atlases of Sanson, de l'Isle, Visscher and de Wit.
