Description

Attractive world map of Emanuel Bowen from 'A Complete System of Geography'. Showing double-hemisphere world with one cartouche and a globe. Surrounded by allegorical decorations with four women representing the continents.

New Zealand is largely incomplete, the east coast of Australia is unknown. Northwest coast of America is incomplete above the Straits of Anian.

Cartographer

Emanuel Bowen was a printer, publisher and map engraver in London during the mid-eighteenth century. From 1714 onwards he worked in London and began to produce some of the finest and most attractive maps of the century.
