Description

Antique map of Bulgaria and the western part of Turkey by F. J. v. Reilly. Showing in the north the southeastern part of Bulgaria with Plovdiv and Burgas, in the south the European part of Turkey up to Constantinople (Istanbul), the Bosporus, Marmara Sea and the Dardanelles.

From Reilly's Schauplatz der fünf Theile der Welt, an atlas with over 1000 maps in total. It became famous for the accuracy and high level of detail of the maps and was published in three parts between 1789 and 1806 in Vienna.

Cartographer

Joseph von Reilly, born in 1766, was an art dealer based in Vienna. He also published maps in his two major Atlases: Schauplatz der fünf Theile der Welt and Grosser Deutscher Atlas. He died 1820 in Vienna.
