Description

Antique map of Switzerland with the surrounding countries by Matthias Quad. With a cartouche and a mileage scale. Shows Switzerland with the Lake Constance and the Lake Geneva. Early edition without text on verso. Based on Tschudi's second map of Switzerland from 1560. Printed in Cologne by Johann Bussemann in 1592.

Condition

Somewhat browned and with some underlining in red. Trimmed to the left border and margin added. Very good condition.

Cartographer

Matthias Quad, born in 1557, was a German cartographer active during the late 16th century in Cologne. His main geographical works Europae totius orbis terrarum and Geographisch Handtbuch were published and engraved by Johann Bussemacher. He died in 1613.
