Description

Old coloured antique map of Switzerland by A. H. Jaillot. This is the Covens & Mortier edition. Shows Switzerland between Lake Geneva (Genfersee ) and Lake Constance (Bodensee). With a magnificent title cartouche and 33 coats of arms of the cantons and the most important cities in the margins.

Condition

Lower centrefold backed, some staining in the margins. Three ink stains around the middle part of the map, several place names underlined in ink by an old hand. Very good condition with old outline colour. Never framed before.

Cartographer

Hubert Jaillot, one of the most important French cartographers of the 17th century, was born 1632. He had a partnership with Nicolas Sanson's son and re-published and re-engraved many Sanson maps. The Atlases and map mainly have been printed by Pierre Mortier in Amsterdam but also in Paris. He died 1712 in Paris.
