Description

Antique map of Luxembourg by Matthias Quad. Rare and early edition without text on verso. With a title cartouche, mileage scale and coat of arms. Shows the area between Meuse and Moselle with Namur, Mainz and Trier, Luxembourg in the centre. Printed in Cologne by Johann Bussemann in 1592.

Condition

Minimally stained, two small paper stains and faint vertical crease. Very good condition.

Cartographer

Matthias Quad, born in 1557, was a German cartographer active during the late 16th century in Cologne. His main geographical works Europae totius orbis terrarum and Geographisch Handtbuch were published and engraved by Johann Bussemacher. He died in 1613.
