Description

Beautiful copper engraving map of the watercourses Rhine (Rhenus), Waal (Vahalis) and Maas (Mosa). Published by Johannes Janssonius in the Spanish edition of the Atlas Novus in 1653. The map shows the course of the Rhine from Rheinberg to Gorkum in the Netherlands and is divided into two superimposed sections: The lower part of the map depicts the area from Rheinberg to Nijmegen and documents the course of the river as well as neighbouring towns and landscapes in detail. The upper part of the map shows the area from Kleve-Griethausen via Gorkum to ‘s-Hertogenbosch, thus mapping the entire western section of the Rhine within the Netherlands.
