A rare garden and park plan of Gaillon by G. L. le Rouge
A large and scarce map of Gaillon in the Normandie. Showing the extensive park and a view of the Castle of Gaillon, which is often considered as the very first renaissance castle in France. One decorative cartouche and a view of the garden house in the upper right corner. The plan was engraved by Le Tellier in 1748.
Only a handful examples of this separately issued plan are known to exist. At least one in the Bibliothèque nationale de France and an other example is listed in the British Library catalogue.
G. L. le Rouge was a French military engineer, hydrographer and cartographer. He produced a wide rang of attractive cartographic work. He held a position of Geographical Engineer to King Louis XV.
