Beautiful original hand coloured large folio copper engraving of a Hart's-tongue Fern. Drawn and engraved by Regnault's wife Geneviève. With wide margin. The engraving comes from "La botanique" which is according to Blunt "Perhaps the most impressive French botanical book of the period".
Printed on chain-lined paper with strong plate marks and watermarks. Some marginal foxing, mainly in the margins. Minor undulated.
About the  Author/ Artist:  Nicolas François Regnault, a French botanist and physician, was born 1746 in Paris. For his major work "La botanique mise à la portée de tout le monde" , his wife Geneviève de Nangis Regnault has drawn and engraved most of the plates. He died in 1810.
