| About the Author/ Artist: J. J. Schwabe was a German writer, translator and publisher born 1714 in Magdeburg. He was publisher of the most notable travelogue of the 18th century in Germany. It was published 1747 until 1774 in 21 volumes in Leipzig and was based on the English "New general collection of voyages and travels" (Thomas Astley, 4 vol, 1745-1747) and the French "Histoire générale des voyages" (Antoine François Prévost, 20 vol., 1746-1791). The illustrated maps mainly based on those of Bellin. He died 1784 in Leipzig. |
